A More Able Church

Sharing Stories and Plans for the Future
Invitation to a Zoom Session on Wednesday 26th June, 7.30 – 9.00pm

Dear Friends,

A few years ago the Synod set out on a journey to educate, inform and help local churches be more welcoming and accessible to people with disabilities, seen and unseen. We called this initiative A More Able Church. It is often buildings, environments and attitudes that are disabling and we recognise that each of us, to one degree or another, come with a variety of needs. A More Able Church encourages changes that help us all, but in particular people with specific needs, to flourish as human beings.

We are aiming to pick up the threads of A More Able Church over the coming months and would like to begin by inviting you to a Zoom session on Wednesday 26th June. The session will be hosted by the small group that has been working on this and is an open invitation to come along and share your stories whilst also hearing the stories of others. We’ll be thinking about the challenges that you might have faced because of a disability and some of the things that you’ve found helpful. We’ll also be asking how we can change people’s perceptions about disability and explore ways to enable everyone to be able to participate fully in church life.

Looking further ahead we hope to arrange a series of online sessions in the Autumn to explore in more depth some of the different aspects of disabilities. We will find out about the lived experiences of some who face these challenges daily and become better informed to respond in ways that are appropriate. Come along on the 26th June to find out more about these planned sessions.

To register for this session, and receive the Zoom link please email Jason Askew, Synod Training and Development Officer – jason.askew.urcwales@urc.org.uk. And please do share this information with others in your church and encourage them to come along too.

Yours in Christ

Rev David Salsbury – Synod Moderator
